What Is Medi-Cal?
Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid program. It helps to pay for medical services for California residents with lower incomes, or limited resources. For example, Medi-Cal may cover:
- Pregnant women
- Over 65s
- Disabled individuals
To successfully apply for Medi-Cal, you must meet certain eligibility requirements.
Medi-Cal Eligibility
You may be eligible for Medi-Cal if you are over 65 and you have limited assets available to pay for long-term care. This means, for example, that your income cannot exceed certain levels.
- Your primary residence will not be counted when determining your eligibility.
- Your income will be considered to determine if you should pay a share of the cost (co-pay).
Eligibility levels vary each year. They are complex and depend on, for example, your marital status and health care needs. You should only apply for Medi-Cal after seeking advice from an experienced Medi-Cal planning attorney.
California Medi-Cal Eligibility Verification
Your eligibility for Medi-Cal may be reviewed annually. If your circumstances change, you may no longer qualify for Medi-Cal coverage. Our attorneys can explain your options for retaining eligibility, or for how you might pay for long-term care.
